Deep Dive into Rainforest Test Writing Service
We’ve made a lot of changes to our Test Writing Service over the past few months and it’s become the powerhouse of test creation for many Rainforest users.
In this post, we’ll dive deep into how Rainforest Test Writing Service works, and how you can use it to scale up and streamline your test case management workflow.
Anatomy of a Test Request
Rainforest wants it to be as easy as possible for you to add and maintain test cases. You can import tests directly from TestRail for conversion to the Rainforest format, submit video walkthroughs of features to be tested, or simply write a quick description of the tests you need.
No matter which format you prefer, you’re only a few clicks away from a bigger, better test suite. Simply provide the expected results and outline of the actions you’d like our Test Authors to take. You can also set the test priority to help your team understand how to prioritize test results within your suite.
Measuring Progress in Test Writing Service
Test cases take a few days to complete, but that doesn’t mean you’ll be in the dark while you’re waiting. You can track the progress of each request from the Test Writing Servicedashboard.
While you can only have one active request with our Test Author team at a time, you can queue up as many requests as you’d like. The Test Request dashboard will show you everything from the status of your tests to the number of test cases it returns.
Keep Test Creation Running Smoothly
Sometimes test requests cannot be completed because of missing information, environment issues, or bugs. The Blocked Tests Dashboard provides a centralized location for you to review any test creation issues and get your test suite back on track. Learn more about unblocking your test cases in our Support Center.
Reviewing Your New Test Suite
Once your test request is complete, you’ll be able to review your new tests. You can click into each test run to see a full list of test cases created by the Test Writing Service run. Remember that you can always review the test outline in the sidebar if you want to double-check your original request!
From here, you can start organizing your new test cases. Tests are created and executed in Draft Mode while in Test Writing Service to ensure that they’re running green before they reach you. Once you’re ready to start using these tests, you can add them to run groups to start running them consistently, reassign the test owner to someone else on your team, and use them the same way you would any Rainforest test case.
Test Writing Service isn’t just for creating brand new tests, either. When your test case needs to be updated, you can easily submit it back to Test Writing Service by selecting “Needs Refactor” in the test run results.
